I have packed a 55-litre and a 15-litre rucksack, until both bulge; suntan lotion, insect repellent, anti-malarial tablets, spare Ventolin inhaler, shorts, trousers, shampoo, washing lotion, passports, plane ticket, guide to the sights of Taiwan, waterproof, alarm clock, underwear, tops (long-sleeved), tops (short-sleeved) and an amazingly fully-featured first-aid kit packed by Mum.

Tomorrow I take the 0540 to KX, thence to Heathrow, then the 0945 to Frankfurt and the 1330 to Delhi.

Today, I'm going to go and see Curse of the Were-Rabbit, thus assuring that the flight to Delhi will have as available entertainment Curse of the Were-Rabbit and four Bollywood romances in undubbed Urdu. Then to the Carlton this evening, for tasty food and goodbyes.

If you want a postcard from Tom's travels, leave your name and address in the comments.

If you want a 'where's Tom now' Google Maps hack, on which a small red push-pin indicates an estimate of my current location, http://www.dracos.co.uk/tomstravels is the web-site for you. Matthew Somerville is truly a wonderful person.

Can I email my address to your chiark account or something? I'd rather not post it in a public entry with unscreened comments...

No problem; either chiark or tom@womack.net

Enjoy your trip!

I'll email you my address for a postcard since I don't want to leave it on a public post, but don't feel any sense of obligation to send one.

Do you have a specific time yet for when will you be arriving here?

I'm pretty sure it's flight AC518 leaving Chicago O'Hare at 1330 on 29 December and arriving at YUL at 1633.

That's the hope; I imagine that every tourist-frequented hamlet in India has its netcafe nowadays. May not be able to upload photos for a while, though I assume I can get them put onto CD at any camera shop in Bangkok, then post the CD.

Cool. Have a great time.

Yes please to a postcard. You know where I live, I hope.

Oh, and my sister might like one too if you're offering. I'll tell her to email you her address if you don't have it.

Any length of time in Chicago, or just a quick connection? (Don't yet know whether I'll be in town myself on the 29th, mind you!)

Today, I'm going to go and see Curse of the Were-Rabbit, thus assuring that the flight to Delhi will have as available entertainment Curse of the Were-Rabbit and four Bollywood romances in undubbed Urdu.

If you are attentive to Curse of the Were-Rabbit dubbed into Urdu, at least you will be able to order cheese, and perhaps zucchini, when you get where you're going.

One flight gets into O'Hare at 1145, the other leaves at 1330, so I'll not be seeing Chicago on this trip. Maybe in '08 ...

It wasn't Curse of the Were-Rabbit in Urdu, it was Cinderella Man, about boxing in the Depression, in English. Fortunately they also had Weber's clarinet quintet on indefinite repeat on one of the other channels, and I had some books.
