Note that I voted for what I would do in your situation (Ortnung!), not necessarily what you should do in actual life.

I really can't countenance throwing away papers unexamined, but perhaps something *short* of deeply obsessive examination could be managed?

You know, giving me options that include "indulge your OCD" is pretty much a foregone conclusion.

Looks as if you are to be doomed to obsessive actions, or perhaps quick decisions followed by obsessive worrying if you made the correct choice.

Big box of papers: you've already identified Important Booklets and Thesis, so they're half-sorted already. File the important stuff (or put them in clearly-marked folders/envelopes so you don't have to sort them again) and stick the rest in a box; if you're feeling strong, bin it, otherwise put it in storage somewhere & deal with it later.

CDs: if they're usable, don't throw them away! Offer them at work, but if nobody takes them, bring them to Cambridge. If they don't sell here, somebody will at least take them off your hands for free (still better than binning).
