They're definitely immature gulls, but, even looking at the other photos I took at the time, I can't decide if they're herring gulls or lesser black-backed gulls, nor whether they're this year's or last. There are people reading this (redbird?) vastly more ornithologically ept than I, though possibly not in the birds of Scotland.
Though the colouring is nicely reminiscent of raptors.
