Public service announcement

del.icio.us appears to be closing down.

To retrieve all your bookmarks from it, do

curl --user USERNAME:PASSWORD -o DeliciousBookmarks.xml -O 'https://api.del.icio.us/v1/posts/all'

(or wget, if you prefer that)

This is why I like Dropbox - it doesn't (just) store the data in the cloud, it synchronises it to various computers so you have multiple copies. If Dropbox pulled the plug without notice, it would be a pain but not a disaster.

Cheers - I have only ever used it in fits and starts (last bookmark: August), but there's stuff there I'd like to keep.

Hmmm, I haven't used del.icio.us in a while. I suspect that era ended when I stopped needing to keep bookmarks in sync across three computers.

Anyway, thanks for that, I now have a file in chiark that in practise is probably not going to be looked at for another few years, if ever, but maybe some day...

Argh, that's quite annoying. I have about three different delicious accounts for various things.
