sounds as if the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope project may be somewhat delayed.
I have heard vague unattributable rumours in the past of bits of expensive astronomical equipment getting to the top of Chilean mountains in rather more pieces than were ordered, but this would be by some way the largest.

Date: 2010-06-26 01:31 pm (UTC)I didn't know you were into Astronomising *bounce bounce* Let me know next time your in this part of the country and we'll have to organise a star gazing trip! I'm hoping to get my 4.5 inch telescope within the next few months (requires transport I don't have at the moment) but we should totally take it out for a test drive! Do you stargaze in Cambridge? If/when I come up there I will totally take binoculars and pounce on you!
Oh oh! I can get (nearly Dr.) Daniel to tell us about his project work too! It's about the magnetic fields around Saturn (which we should totally look at).
Want to get a special sort of attachment for my telescope for putting a webcam on it.
*Squee astronomy!*
