Much better! Is that a telescope I spy?

You are to be congratulated on your telescope-spotting skills:

I keep it in the corner of the living room to try to embarrass myself into actually using it from time to time. It's quite a nice telescope, the mountains on the Moon look pretty good through it, but I haven't got the adaptor for using it as the world's most cumbersome telephoto lens yet, and the mounting is made from thirty-one separate pieces of wobble stuck together with rubber bands, so it's almost impossible to point it at anything smaller or harder to find than the Moon.

The problem is, 'let's use the telescope' only ever comes up in a party when the party is already cosy and warm and the outside particularly bleak and cold.

I know exactly what you mean. I have a 4.5 inch meade which I have not used for far too long. I want to get an adapter for it too so that I can photograph objects with a webcam. There's far too much light pollution in London for stargazing... *sigh*

Being able to see one's books is highly correlated with happiness.

Oh oh! Birdwatcher? Do I get a prize for earning stalker points? X

[identity profile] fivemack.livejournal.com 2009-12-02 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Not really a birdwatcher; my father's enormously keen on them, and it makes conversations on walks in the country a lot easier if I can reliably distinguish a great spotted woodpecker from a bullfinch. It's the Guardian's chart of garden birds, and it's up on the wall just because it looks pretty and is about the right size for that corner.

If you want to get a sense of my character through my book collection, you can read most of the titles on the full-size versions of the pictures at http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~twomack/super-bulbzilla-2/beeg ...

Hehe, I don't believe it's common practice to encourage stalker-like behavior. A joke about never judging a book buy it's cover springs to mind but I'll spare you the groan worthy details.

Ooh, this is quite useful. Could I please ask, approximately what are the dimensions of the room you lit with this?
