My evenings since my last entry have mostly been filled with the Theatre: I've been doing lighting (making futile design suggestions, fleeing to Canada to avoid gel-cutting, helping with focussing, and operating two and a half nights) for the Cotswald Savoyard's production of Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

And what's to come, now that's the play, and he wouldn't want us to give it away

And the boy? What shall we do about the boy?

And we've shepherd's pie peppered with actual shepherd on top

I have been disturbing people with cheerful songs about cannibalism, miraculous trichological elixirs, and settling down to married life on the south coast.

Lighting is unavoidably more solitary than most theatrical work; one board, one operator, and generally only one ladder long enough for the focussing. I appear, at the after-show party on Saturday (naturally, meat pies were served; they seem to have poisoned my housemate enough to leave him in bed for two days), to have joined a play-reading group (there's this girl, you see ...) and to have agreed to audition for Princess Ida. But that's in March, and I'll have plenty of time to sleep before then.
