Sage advice

From a materials safety data sheet which I thought at first was a joke (since it was clearly referring to silicon dioxide, ie glass) - it turns out to be referring to a teflon-coated glass fibre for use in weaving linings for furnaces, which needed an MSDS since it turns into something worryingly like asbestos when strongly heated.

INCOMPATIBILITY (Materials to Avoid):

Molten alkali metals. Reacts with xenon hexafluoride to produce xenon trioxide. May react with hydrofluoric acid to produce silicon tetrafluoride gas. Avoid oxygen difluoride, chlorine trifluoride and hot phosphoric acid.

I would like to assert my heart-felt agreement with the last sentence of that paragraph.

Blast!

While having a nice meal with [livejournal.com profile] helenbr's sister this evening, somebody stole the bike that I'd bought just over five months ago from where I left it, wheel locked to frame but not locked to an immovable object through lack of convenient immovable objects, outside her front window. I'd jokingly checked at 8pm that the bike was still there; at 11pm, there it wasn't.

Blast.

It's postcoded, I've a photo of it, I don't have a record of the frame number and I'm not sure whether I've still got the receipt.

It's not really practical to walk to work, so I guess I'll be buying another bike tomorrow morning. Second-hand this time, assuming 2/h bike shops are open on Sundays around here.

Once again, blast.
